Friendly Valley Ceramics Club is a great place to expand your creativity! The club meets Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:30 for orientation and instruction, and Thursday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Once you join the club and have learned the basics you can visit Security for access to the clubroom at your leisure and be limited only by your imagination.
The ceramics club has hundreds of molds for slip casting – everything from fantastical characters and statuary to utilitarian bowls, pots, cups. Once an item is poured, dried and cleaned as greenware, it is fired in one of our kilns and becomes a much stronger bisque piece. The bisque can then be painted with acrylic paint if it is for decoration only or glazed and fired again if it is to be used for food or handled frequently.
Don’t feel like pouring molds? We also have clay available for hand building items using rolling, coiling, or pinching methods. We are not experts but have learned techniques we are happy to share. We also have a number of pre-cast items from "In The Kiln", a pottery studio in San Dimas. "In The Kiln" provides them to us on consignment, so they are available for sale. Of course, nothing beats a visit to "In The Kiln", where they have literally thousands of things from which to choose from, but they provide us a nice selection as well.
See below for upcoming technique workshops, and please check out the catalog of Christmas trees that "In The Kiln" has available for purchase through the Ceramic Club. You can finish up the piece right here in Friendly Valley. If you’re interested in a tree, please contact the club. Finishing the tree and getting it fired takes some time, so get started now to have it ready by Christmas!
Ceramic Club Members - Please take a look at the items shown below. If they belong to you, contact the Ceramic Club by October 24. 2018. Those items not identified as belonging to a member will be returned to stock and available for others to complete. We need room in the cupboards and are happy to accommodate pieces you want to complete, but many of these have been untouched for many months. Thanks!
